‘Drag Race’ Star Detox Comes Out as Trans

Season 5 RuPaul’s Drag Race star Detox has come out as trans.
While performing at the DNC — no, not that one, it was a Wednesday evening show called Drag Night Chicago — Detox joined her former DWV sister Willam to perform their beloved parody song “Chow Down (At Chick-Fil-A).” The All Stars 2 finalist then changed a lyric from “I’m a top” to “I’m trans now!”

Detox confirmed the announcement in a comment on a viral TikTok of the performance.
“Cat’s outta the bag!” she wrote.
Some commenters expressed joy for Detox’s coming out, while others were happy, though not shocked.
“Yaaaassss detox babe I love this for her,” one person wrote, alongside trans heart emojis. “The closet was glass but slay girlie pop,” wrote another.
Detox joins a growing list of Drag Race queens who have come out as trans, including her season 5 sister Jinkx Monsoon, Adore Delano, Eureka, as well as several members of the cast of season 14. There are also several trans queens who have competed on Drag Race while being out as trans, including season 15 winner Sasha Colby, Gottmik, and Kylie Sonique Love, who came out between filming season 2 and winning All Stars 6.
Though many people love Detox, especially for her fashion prowess, she recently indicated that she would not return to the franchise after her season 5 and All Stars 2 sister Roxxxy Andrews didn’t snatch the crown on All Stars 9. After saying that she did have “an itch” to return at a public appearance in May, Detox tweeted “The itch is gone. Playin’ in my girls’ face,” after Andrews’ loss.

The DNC performance was a fundraiser put on by Drag PAC, a collection of Drag Race queens who have banded together to mobilize voters.
“We are excited to make HERstory with the launch of Drag PAC, the first-ever political action committee led by drag entertainers!” the PAC wrote on Instagram in June. “Founded by global drag queen super stars, we’re here to engage, educate, and mobilize Gen Z voters and progressive allies to vote ahead the most consequential election for LGBTQ+ rights in our nation’s history.”
